Town of Torrey Call to Action for MONDAY MARCH 15th

We apologize for the late notice, but the time has come for us to step things up in the Town of Torrey. We call on you to join us tomorrow (MONDAY MARCH 15th at 6:30 pmpeacefully, outside, socially distanced, masked, wearing blue, carrying signs, in front of the Town of Torrey Planning Board meeting location: Dresden Methodist Church 60 Cornelia St, Dresden, NY 14441 (corner of Main and Cornelia Streets).

We have written letters sharing our concerns about the Greenidge expansion, requested a zoom option for safe participation during Covid (which is an executive order), requested a moratorium and more to no avail. Yates County has rejected the Bitcoin expansion plan, and yet it appears that the Town wants to move full speed ahead with this ill-conceived idea despite all of our valid concerns.  While we do not think a vote will take place tomorrow, we need the Town Planning Board to see that we mean business!

We know that it may be a long drive for some, that it won’t be very warm, but we see no other way of expressing ourselves other than to show up in force to make our voices heard.

While the Finger Lakes is being considered for a National Heritage Designation by Congress, the small Town of Torrey and Greenidge could make a decision that would forever harm this gem of a region we call home. Burning dirty fossil fuels, warming our water, killing our aquatic life, and generating noise is completely antithetical to our way of life- one that would negatively impact our air, our environment, our water, and our agri-tourism economy- for generations to come- in the midst of global climate change.  It’s inconceivable. We cannot allow this to happen.

Please show up. Let’s show Torrey that we are a force to be reckoned with.
Ideas for signage welcome!

TOMORROW, MONDAY MARCH 15TH, 6:30PM Dresden Methodist Church
